RESUMO

Liver metastasis is a major cause of mortality in patients with advanced stages of colorectal cancer (CRC). The gut microbiota has been demonstrated to influence the progression of liver diseases, potentially providing novel perspectives for diagnosis, treatment and research. However, the gut microbial characteristics in CRC with liver metastasis (LM) and with no liver metastasis (NLM) have not yet been fully established. In the present study, high-throughput 16S RNA sequencing technology was employed, in order to examine the gut microbial richness and composition in patients with CRC with LM or NLM. A discovery cohort (cohort 2; LM=18; NLM=36) and a validation cohort (cohort 3; LM=13; NLM=41) were established using fresh feces. In addition, primary carcinoma tissue samples were also analyzed (LM=8 and NLM=10) as a supplementary discovery cohort (cohort 1). The findings of the present study indicated that the intestinal microbiota richness and diversity were increased in the LM group as compared to the NLM group. A significant difference was observed in species composition between the LM and NLM group. In the two discovery cohorts with two different samples, the dominant phyla were consistent, but varied at lower taxonomic levels. Phylum Fusobacteria presented consistent and significant enrichment in LM group in both discovery cohorts. Furthermore, with the application of a random forest model and receiver operator characteristic curve analysis, Fusobacteria was identified as a potential biomarker for LM. Moreover, Fusobacteria was also a poor prognosis factor for survival. Importantly, the findings were reconfirmed in the validation cohort. On the whole, the findings of the present study demonstrated that CRC with LM and NLM exhibit distinct gut microbiota characteristics. Fusobacteria detection thus has potential for use in predicting LM and a poor prognosis of patients with CRC.

Background and objective: Futile recanalization (FR) is defined as patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion who still exhibits functional dependence although undergoing successful mechanical thrombectomy (MT). We aimed to develop and validate a simple nomogram for predicting the probability of FR after MT treatment in AIS patients. Methods: Clinical data of AIS patients in the Jrecan clinical trial in China from March 2018 to June 2019 were collected as the derivation set (n = 162). Meanwhile, clinical data of AIS patients who underwent MT in Baotou Central Hospital and Ningbo No.2 Hospital from 2019 to 2021 were collected as the validation set (n = 170). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed for all variables that had p < 0.2 in the univariate analysis in the derivation set. The independent risk factors of FR were further screened out and a nomogram was constructed. The performance of the nomogram was analyzed in the derivation and validation set using C-index, calibration plots, and decision curves. Results: No significant difference in FR rate was detected between the derivation set and the validation set [88/162 (54.32%) and 82/170 (48.23%), p = 0.267]. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age ≥ 65 years old (OR = 2.096, 95%CI 1.024-4.289, p = 0.043), systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 180 mmHg (OR = 5.624, 95%CI 1.141-27.717, p = 0.034), onset to recanalization time (OTR) ≥ 453 min (OR = 2.759, 95%CI 1.323-5.754, p = 0.007), 24 h intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH; OR = 4.029, 95%CI 1.844 ~ 8.803, p < 0.001) were independent risk factors for FR. The C-index of the nomogram of the derivation set and the verification set were 0.739 (95%CI 0.662~0.816) and 0.703 (95%CI 0.621~0.785), respectively. Conclusion: The nomogram composed of age, SBP, OTR, and 24 h ICH can effectively predict the probability of FR after MT in AIS patients.

Seamounts are globally distributed across the oceans and form one of the major oceanic biomes. Here, we utilized combined analyses of bulk metagenome and virome to study viral communities in seamount sediments in the western Pacific Ocean. Phylogenetic analyses and the protein-sharing network demonstrate extensive diversity and previously unknown viral clades. Inference of virus-host linkages uncovers extensive interactions between viruses and dominant prokaryote lineages, and suggests that viruses play significant roles in carbon, sulfur, and nitrogen cycling by compensating or augmenting host metabolisms. Moreover, temperate viruses are predicted to be prevalent in seamount sediments, which tend to carry auxiliary metabolic genes for host survivability. Intriguingly, the geographical features of seamounts likely compromise the connectivity of viral communities and thus contribute to the high divergence of viral genetic spaces and populations across seamounts. Altogether, these findings provides knowledge essential for understanding the biogeography and ecological roles of viruses in globally widespread seamounts.

BACKGROUND: Mechanosensitive ion channel PIEZOs have been widely reported to involve inflammation and pain. This study aimed to clarify expression patterns of PIEZOs and their potential relations to irreversible pulpitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Normal pulp tissues (n = 29) from patients with impacted third molars and inflamed pulp tissues (n = 23) from patients with irreversible pulpitis were collected. Pain levels were assessed using a numerical rating scale. PIEZO expressions were measured using real-time PCR and then confirmed using GEO datasets GSE77459, immunoblot, and immunohistochemistry staining. Correlations of PIEZO mRNA expression with inflammatory markers, pain markers, or clinical pain levels were evaluated using Spearman's correlation analysis. Univariate analysis was conducted to analyze PIEZO expressions based on pain description and clinical examinations of cold test, percussion, palpation, and bite test. RESULTS: Compared with normal pulp tissues, mRNA expression levels of PIEZO1 were significantly increased in inflamed pulp tissues, while PIEZO2 was significantly decreased, which was further confirmed in GSE77459 and on a protein and histological level. The positive correlation of the mRNA expression levels between PIEZO1 and inflammatory markers, as well as between PIEZO2 and pain markers, was verified. PIEZO2 expression was also positively correlated with pain levels. Besides, irreversible pulpitis patients who reported continuous pain and who detected a positive response to cold stimulus exhibited a higher expression level of PIEZO2 in the inflamed pulp tissues. By contrast, patients reporting pain duration of more than one week showed a higher expression level of PIEZO1. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated the upregulation of PIEZO1 and the downregulation of PIEZO2 in irreversible pulpitis and revealed the potential relation of PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 to inflammation and pain. These findings suggested that PIEZOs might play critical roles in the progression of irreversible pulpitis and paved the way for further investigations aimed at novel therapies of irreversible pulpitis by targeting PIEZOs.

In recent decades, substantial advancements in epigenetics have unveiled a profound understanding of its mechanisms in tumorigenesis and have offered promising strategies for epigenetic therapy in cancer patients. In our study, through bioinformatics analysis, we discovered a significant downregulation and hypermethylation of FOXI2 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), while the expression in chromophobe cell carcinoma (chRCC) exhibited the opposite trend. Moreover, we established a strong correlation between FOXI2 expression levels and the prognosis of ccRCC. Gene enrichment analysis and cell function experiments unequivocally demonstrate that FOXI2 possesses the capability to induce cell cycle arrest and inhibit cell proliferation. Our research findings demonstrate that the expression of FOXI2 in ccRCC is under the regulation of promoter hypermethylation. Furthermore, in vitro experiments have conclusively shown that the overexpression of FOXI2 induces cell cycle arrest and inhibits cell proliferation.

There is growing concern about the transfer of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in airborne particulate matter. In this study, we investigated the effects of various types of carbonaceous particulate matter (CPM) on the transfer of ARGs in vitro. The results showed that CPM promoted the transfer of ARGs, which was related to the concentration and particle size. Compared with the control group, the transfer frequency was 95.5, 74.7, 65.4, 14.7, and 3.8 times higher in G (graphene), CB (carbon black), NGP (nanographite powder), GP1.6 (graphite powder 1.6 micron), and GP45 (graphite powder 45 micron) groups, respectively. Moreover, the transfer frequency gradually increased with the increase in CPM concentration, while there was a negative relationship between the CPM particle size and conjugative transfer frequency. In addition, the results showed that CPM could promote the transfer of ARGs by increasing ROS, as well as activating the SOS response and expression of conjugative transfer-related genes (trbBp, trfAp, korA, kroB, and trbA). These findings are indicative of the potential risk of CPM for the transfer of ARGs in the environment, enriching our understanding of environmental pollution and further raising awareness of environmental protection.

The composition, quantity, and function of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) are closely correlated with tumorigenesis. However, the mechanisms of PBMCs in lung cancer are not clear. Mitochondria are energy factories of cells, and almost all cellular functions rely on their energy metabolism level. The present study aimed to test whether the mitochondrial function of PBMCs directly determines their tumor immune monitoring function. We recruited 211 subjects, including 105 healthy controls and 106 patients with recently diagnosed with lung cancer. The model of lung carcinogenesis induced by BaP was used in animal experiment, and the Bap carcinogenic metabolite, Benzo(a)pyren-7,8-dihydrodiol-9,10-epoxide (BPDE), was used in cell experiment. We found that mitochondrial function of PBMCs decreased significantly in patients with new lung cancer, regardless of age. In vivo, BaP caused PBMC mitochondrial dysfunction in mice before the appearance of visible malignant tissue. Moreover, mitochondrial function decreased significantly in mice with lung cancers induced by BaP compared to those without lung cancer after BaP intervention. In vitro, BPDE also induced mitochondrial dysfunction and reduced the aggressiveness of PBMCs toward cancer cells. Furthermore, the changes in mitochondrial energy metabolism gene expression caused by BPDE are involved in this process. Thus, the mitochondrial function of PBMCs is a potential prognostic biomarker or therapeutic target to improve clinical outcomes in patients with lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) remains a significant cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is a potential intervention for OHCA, but its effectiveness compared to conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR) needs further evaluation. METHOD: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and ClinicalTrials.gov for relevant studies from January 2010 to March 2023. Pooled meta-analysis was performed to investigate any potential association between ECPR and improved survival and neurological outcomes. RESULTS: This systematic review and meta-analysis included two randomized controlled trials enrolling 162 participants and 10 observational cohort studies enrolling 4507 participants. The pooled meta-analysis demonstrated that compared to CCRP, ECPR did not improve survival and neurological outcomes at 180 days following OHCA (RR: 3.39, 95% CI: 0.79 to 14.64; RR: 2.35, 95% CI: 0.97 to 5.67). While a beneficial effect of ECPR was obtained regarding 30-day survival and neurological outcomes. Furthermore, ECPR was associated with a higher risk of bleeding complications. Subgroup analysis showed that ECPR was prominently beneficial when exclusively initiated in the emergency department. Additional post-resuscitation treatments did not significantly impact the efficacy of ECPR on 180-day survival with favorable neurological outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: There is no high-quality evidence supporting the superiority of ECPR over CCPR in terms of survival and neurological outcomes in OHCA patients. However, due to the potential for bias, heterogeneity among studies, and inconsistency in practice, the non-significant results do not preclude the potential benefits of ECPR. Further high-quality research is warranted to optimize ECPR practice and provide more generalizable evidence. INTRODUCTION: The impact of immunosuppression on prognosis of carbapenem-resistant organism (CRO) bloodstream infection (BSI) remains unclear. The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between immunosuppression and mortality of CRO-BSI and to identify the risk factors associated with mortality in immunosuppressed patients. METHODS: This retrospective study included 279 patients with CRO-BSI from January 2018 to March 2023. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were compared between the immunosuppressed and immunocompetent patients. The relationship between immunosuppression and 30-day mortality after BSI onset was assessed through logistic-regression analysis, propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Factors associated with mortality in immunosuppressed patients were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: A total of 88 immunocompetent and 191 immunosuppressed patients were included, with 30-day all-cause mortality of 58.8%. Although the 30-day mortality in immunosuppressed patients was significantly higher than in immunocompetent patients (46.6% vs. 64.4%, P = 0.007), immunosuppression was not an independent risk factor for mortality in multivariate logistic regression analysis (odds ratio [OR] 3.53, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.74-18.89; P = 0.123), PSM (OR 1.38, 95% CI 0.60-3.18; P = 0.449,) or IPTW (OR 1.40, 95% CI 0.58-3.36; P = 0.447). For patients with CRO-BSI, regardless of immune status, appropriate antibiotic therapy was associated with decreased 30-day mortality, while Charlson comorbidity index (CCI), intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired infection and thrombocytopenia at CRO-BSI onset were associated with increased mortality. CONCLUSION: Despite the high mortality rate of CRO-BSI, immunosuppression did not affect the mortality. Appropriate antibiotic therapy is crucial for improving the prognosis of CRO-BSI, regardless of the immune status.

Physical therapy is extensively employed in clinical settings. Nevertheless, the absence of suitable animal models has resulted in an incomplete understanding of the in vivo mechanisms and cellular distribution that respond to physical stimuli. The objective of this research was to create a mouse model capable of indicating the cells affected by physical stimuli. In this study, we successfully established a mouse line based on the heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) promoter, wherein the expression of CreERT2 can be induced by physical stimuli. Following stimulation of the mouse tail, ear, or cultured calvarias with heat shock (generated by heating, ultrasound, or laser), a distinct Cre-mediated excision was observed in cells stimulated by these physical factors with minimal occurrence of leaky reporter expression. The application of heat shock to Hsp70-CreERT2; FGFR2-P253R double transgenic mice or Hsp70-CreERT2 mice infected with AAV-BMP4 at calvarias induced the activation of Cre-dependent mutant FGFR2-P253R or BMP4 respectively, thereby facilitating the premature closure of cranial sutures or the repair of calvarial defects. This novel mouse line holds significant potential for investigating the underlying mechanisms of physical therapy, tissue repair and regeneration, lineage tracing, and targeted modulation of gene expression of cells in local tissue stimulated by physical factor at the interested time points. KEY MESSAGES: In the study, an Hsp70-CreERT2 transgenic mouse was generated for heat shock-induced gene modulation. Heat shock, ultrasound, and laser stimulation effectively activated Cre expression in Hsp70-CreERT2; reporter mice, which leads to deletion of floxed DNA sequence in the tail, ear, and cultured calvaria tissues of mice. Local laser stimuli on cultured calvarias effectively induce Fgfr2-P253R expression in Hsp70-mTmG-Fgfr2-P253R mice and result in accelerated premature closure of cranial suture. Heat shock activated AAV9-FLEX-BMP4 expression and subsequently promoted the repair of calvarial defect of Hsp70-CreERT2; Rosa26-mTmG mice.

BACKGROUND: The recently identified methylation patterns specific to cell type allows the tracing of cell death dynamics at the cellular level in health and diseases. This study used COVID-19 as a disease model to investigate the efficacy of cell-specific cell-free DNA (cfDNA) methylation markers in reflecting or predicting disease severity or outcome. METHODS: Whole genome methylation sequencing of cfDNA was performed for 20 healthy individuals, 20 cases with non-hospitalized COVID-19 and 12 cases with severe COVID-19 admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). Differentially methylated regions (DMRs) and gene ontology pathway enrichment analyses were performed to explore the locus-specific methylation difference between cohorts. The proportion of cfDNA derived from lung and immune cells to a given sample (i.e. tissue fraction) at cell-type resolution was estimated using a novel algorithm, which reflects lung injuries and immune response in COVID-19 patients and was further used to evaluate clinical severity and patient outcome. RESULTS: COVID­19 patients had globally reduced cfDNA methylation level compared with healthy controls. Compared with non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients, the cfDNA methylation pattern was significantly altered in severe patients with the identification of 11,156 DMRs, which were mainly enriched in pathways related to immune response. Markedly elevated levels of cfDNA derived from lung and more specifically alveolar epithelial cells, bronchial epithelial cells, and lung endothelial cells were observed in COVID-19 patients compared with healthy controls. Compared with non-hospitalized patients or healthy controls, severe COVID-19 had significantly higher cfDNA derived from B cells, T cells and granulocytes and lower cfDNA from natural killer cells. Moreover, cfDNA derived from alveolar epithelial cells had the optimal performance to differentiate COVID-19 with different severities, lung injury levels, SOFA scores and in-hospital deaths, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.958, 0.941, 0.919 and 0.955, respectively. CONCLUSION: Severe COVID-19 has a distinct cfDNA methylation signature compared with non-hospitalized COVID-19 and healthy controls. Cell type-specific cfDNA methylation signature enables the tracing of COVID-19 related cell deaths in lung and immune cells at cell-type resolution, which is correlated with clinical severities and outcomes, and has extensive application prospects to evaluate tissue injuries in diseases with multi-organ dysfunction.

Chlorine-resistant bacteria (CRB) in drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) jeopardize water quality and pose a potential risk to human health. However, the specific response of CRB to chlorination and chloramination remains uncharacterized. Therefore, we analyzed 16 S rRNA sequencing data from water samples before and after chlorination and chloramination taken between January and December 2020. Proteobacteria and Firmicutes dominated all finished water samples. After chloramination, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Methylobacterium, Ralstonia, and Sphingomonas were the dominant CRB, whereas Ralstonia, Bacillus, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, and Enterococcus were prevalent after chlorination. Over 75% of the CRB e.g. Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Bacillus, and Enterococcus were shared between the chlorination and chloramination, involving potentially pathogens, such as Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Notably, certain genera such as Faecalibacterium, Geobacter, and Megasphaera were enriched as strong CRB after chloramination, whereas Vogesella, Flavobacterium, Thalassolituus, Pseudoalteromonas, and others were enriched after chlorination according to LEfSe analysis. The shared CRB correlated with temperature, pH, and turbidity, displaying a seasonal pattern with varying sensitivity to chlorination and chloramination in cold and warm seasons. These findings enhance our knowledge of the drinking water microbiome and microbial health risks, thus enabling better infectious disease control through enhanced disinfection strategies in DWTPs.

BACKGROUND: Entirely impacted mandibular third molar (EIM3M) concerns the pathological external root resorption (ERR) of the adjacent mandibular second molar (M2M) and formation of granulation tissue between two molars. The study aimed to clarify the effect of αENaC, a mechano-sensitive molecule, to explore the mechanical mechanism in this scenario. METHODS: The force EIM3M exerted on M2M was proved by finite element analysis. αENaC expressions were tested by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), immunoblotting and immunofluorescence. Inflammatory and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related molecules expressions were also detected by real-time PCR. The correlation was analyzed by Spearman's correlation analysis, and receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curve was further exhibited. RESULTS: The force was concentrated in the ERR area. αENaC was upregulated, positively correlated with ERR degree and localized to the fibroblasts in ERR granulation tissues. Moreover, αENaC was respectively and positively associated with elevated TNF-α and N-cadherin in ERR granulation tissues. More importantly, ROC analysis verified αENaC as a novel indication of the incidence of this disease. CONCLUSIONS: Our finding revealed the force from EIM3M causing ERR of M2M, and elucidated the expression and localization of αENaC and its positive correlation with inflammation, EMT and disease severity, suggesting a novel indication in this disease.

BACKGROUND: The reduced treatment time of dental implants with immediate loading protocol is an appealing solution for dentists and patients. However, there remains a significant risk of early peri-implant bone response following the placement of immediately loaded implants, and limited information is available regarding loading directions and the associated in vivo characteristics of peri-implant bone during the early stages. This study aimed to investigate the effects of immediate loading directionality on the expression of mechanical sensing protein PIEZO1 and the healing process of peri-implant bone in the early stage. METHODS: Thirty-two implants were inserted into the goat iliac crest models with 10 N static lateral immediate loading applied, followed by histological, histomorphological, immunohistochemical, X-ray microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy evaluations conducted after 10 days. RESULTS: From evaluations at the cellular, tissue, and organ levels, it was observed that the expression of mechanical sensing protein PIEZO1 in peri-implant bone was significantly higher in the compressive side compared to the tensile side. This finding coincided with trends observed in interfacial bone extracellular matrix (ECM) contact percentage, bone mass, and new bone formation. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a novel insight into the immediate loading directionality as a potential influence factor for dental implant treatments by demonstrating differential effects on the mechanical sensing protein PIEZO1 expression and related early-stage healing processes of peri-implant bone. Immediate loading directions serve as potential therapeutic influence factors for peri-implant bone during its early healing stage.

Objective To investigate clinicians' practice and opinions on sedation therapy in end-stage patients at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Methods From August,2022 to April,2023,an online questionnaire survey was conducted among clinicians involved in end-stage patient management. Results A total of 205 questionnaires were distributed,with an effective response rate of 56.1%.Among the clinicians,55.7% of them had experience of applying sedation therapy in end-stage patients;85.2% of clinicians believed that sedation could relieve the suffering of terminal patients from physical refractory symptoms;75.7% of clinicians considered that sedation therapy could be used to relieve agony from psycho-existential distress.Most clinicians had concerns about sedation therapy due to the lack of legal support(86.1%)and the lack of understanding of patients or families(59.1%).The majority (90.4%) of clinicians were willing to receive training on palliative sedation. Conclusions A majority of clinicians agree that sedation therapy could relieve the physical distress and psycho-existential distress in end-stage patients.However,most clinicians have concerns about the application of sedation therapy due to the lack of legal support.It is necessary to enhance the training on palliative sedation.

As a typical form of optical fringes with a quadratic phase, Newton's ring patterns play an important role in spherical measurements and optical interferometry. A variety of methods have been used to analyze Newton's ring patterns. However, it is still rather challenging to fulfill the analysis. We present a deep-learning-based method to estimate the parameters of Newton's ring patterns and fulfill the analysis accordingly. The experimental results indicate the excellent accuracy, noise robustness, and demodulation efficiency of our method. It provides another applicable approach to analyzing Newton's ring patterns and brings insights into fringe analysis and interferometry-based measurements.

Whereas extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been engineered for cargo loading, innovative strategies for it can still be developed. Here, we describe domain 4 (D4), a cholesterol-binding domain derived from perfringolysin O, as a viable candidate for EV cargo loading. D4 and its mutants localized to the plasma membrane and the membranes of different vesicular structures in the cytoplasm, and facilitate the transport of proteins of interest (POIs) into EVs. D4-EVs were internalized by recipient cells analogous to EVs engineered with CD9. Intracellular cargo discharge from D4-EVs was successfully detected with the assistance of vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein. This study presents a novel strategy for recruiting POIs into EVs via a lipid-binding domain that ensures content release in recipient cells.

OBJECTIVE: Both sequential embryo transfer (SeET) and double-blastocyst transfer (DBT) can serve as embryo transfer strategies for women with recurrent implantation failure (RIF). This study aims to compare the effects of SeET and DBT on pregnancy outcomes. METHODS: Totally, 261 frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles of 243 RIF women were included in this multicenter retrospective analysis. According to different embryo quality and transfer strategies, they were divided into four groups: group A, good-quality SeET (GQ-SeET, n=38 cycles); group B, poor-quality or mixed-quality SeET (PQ/MQ-SeET, n=31 cycles); group C, good-quality DBT (GQ-DBT, n=121 cycles); and group D, poor-quality or mixed-quality DBT (PQ/MQ-DBT, n=71 cycles). The main outcome, clinical pregnancy rate, was compared, and the generalized estimating equation (GEE) model was used to correct potential confounders that might impact pregnancy outcomes. RESULTS: GQ-DBT achieved a significantly higher clinical pregnancy rate (aOR 2.588, 95% CI 1.267-5.284, P=0.009) and live birth rate (aOR 3.082, 95% CI 1.482-6.412, P=0.003) than PQ/MQ-DBT. Similarly, the clinical pregnancy rate was significantly higher in GQ-SeET than in PQ/MQ-SeET (aOR 4.047, 95% CI 1.218-13.450, P=0.023). The pregnancy outcomes of GQ-SeET were not significantly different from those of GQ-DBT, and the same results were found between PQ/MQ-SeET and PQ/MQ-DBT. CONCLUSION: SeET relative to DBT did not seem to improve pregnancy outcomes for RIF patients if the embryo quality was comparable between the two groups. Better clinical pregnancy outcomes could be obtained by transferring good-quality embryos, no matter whether in SeET or DBT. Embryo quality plays a more important role in pregnancy outcomes for RIF patients.

The nature and function of perisaccadic receptive field (RF) remapping have been controversial. We use a delayed saccade task to reduce previous confounds and examine the remapping time course in the lateral intraparietal area and frontal eye fields. In the delay period, the RF shift direction turns from the initial fixation to the saccade target. In the perisaccadic period, RFs first shift toward the target (convergent remapping), but around the time of saccade onset/offset, the shifts become predominantly toward the post-saccadic RF locations (forward remapping). Thus, unlike forward remapping that depends on the corollary discharge (CD) of the saccade command, convergent remapping appears to follow attention from the initial fixation to the target. We model the data with attention-modulated and CD-gated connections and show that both sets of connections emerge automatically in neural networks trained to update stimulus retinal locations across saccades. Our work thus unifies previous findings into a mechanism for transsaccadic visual stability.
